One week done...

Today was a lazy day around the house. Faith and Roger had a meeting with some Americans from church, while we reclined in the living room and read books.

We both happened to bring "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan and have enjoyed chatting about what we're reading throughout the week. It is about putting it all into perspective, how much God loves you right where you are, but that it isn't about you, it's about HIM. Our favorite example so far: "Suppose you are an extra in an upcoming movie. You will probably scrutinize that one scene where hundreds of people are milling around, just waiting for the two-fifths of a second when you can see the back of your head. Maybe you mom and your closest friend get excited about that two-fifths of a second with you ... maybe. But no one else will realize it is you. Even if you tell them, they won't care. Let's take it a step further. What if you rent out the theater on opening night and invite all your friends and family to come see the new movie about you? People will say, 'You're an idiot! How could you think this movie is about you?' ... From start to finish, this movie is obviously about God ... We only have our two-fifths-of-a-second-long scene to life. I don't know about you, but I want my two-fifths of a second to be about my making much of God ... So what does that mean for you? Frankly, you need to get over yourself. It might sound harsh, but that's seriously what it means." - Francis Chan

During the trip here, we had another book recommended by a fellow traveler and Faith and Roger suggested it as well. So Tara downloaded it onto her TouchPad while we were at our favorite coffee shop in Nyarutarama and Kelly borrowed Faith and Roger's copy. The name of the book is "Left to Tell", and it's the true account of Immaculée, a woman who survived the genocide in 1994. We are just briefly into it (Kelly is on Chapter 4 and Tara is on Chapter 11), but we already recommend it! Amazing read about how Immaculée clung to God while the Hutu extremists murdered her family and stormed the very house she was hiding in.  Very riveting! Especially as we sit in the heart of Rwanda, reading her descriptions.
