A tour ...

Last night a loud storm woke us all up, thunder crashing right over the house and lightening illuminating our rooms. It was a trip, making Tara miss the midwest and Kelly miss the desert! Seeing as it is Sunday here, it was church and just hanging around the house. So, today's blog post will be a small tour of where we are staying!

Inside the front gate ... meet Tina :)
Front of the house ... back of Tina ;)

Right inside the front door... our
favorite "hang out" spot! (hi Tina!)

The "office"
Dining room

Kitchen
The backyard... see the chickens?
And our arch enemy .. the rooster ...

Fun facts:
  • No shower curtains here ... so it takes special talent not to flood the bathroom floor!
  • Rwandan's build really solid houses... however they aren't that great with plumbing. We shower under a cold trickle that has the mysterious ability to flood the entire bathroom, but not rinse off our soap.
  • Nothing like being startled awake in the middle of the night, only to smack your face into your mosquito netting
  • Don't get us wrong, we love out nets :)
  • HUGE cockroaches... but Kelly has great aim. Can nail them with a shoe from up the hall! Go desert girl!
  • You can only get in to the gate if you ring the gate man... silent prayers go out "please gate man, come quick. Two little white girls out here!!!"
  • In San Jose you wake up to lawn movers, car alarms and leaf blowers. In Rwanda you wake up to the local church's praise and worship time (*happy sigh*) or the rooster (who wakes at 4 am)
  • Only two SLPs come up with a plan to paralyze one of the rooster's vocal folds so he will be a BIT quieter
  • Do roosters even have vocal folds?
  • We've decided to market our new diet plan and make millions .... "Go to Rwanda and be allergic to your malaria meds!" We're gonna be rich! (and skinny!)
  • I can see us telling our kids on day.... "When we were your age we had to walk uphill BOTH ways to get enough wifi to skype home!"
  • Nothing like rinsing your toothbrush under the faucet, only to have a panic attack and scream out "oh no! I'm gonna die!"
More to come -- stay tuned!

- Tara and Kelly!
